Kootenay National Park

We have driven into the park several times but never on a sunny day.  This is our last try.  Departing Radium Hot Springs May 31, 2016.  We have traveled 2,154 miles since leaving home May 15th.

Radium Valley Vacation Resort

Chain Saw Corner

Kootenay National Park is a narrow park with Hwy-93 running down the middle but you can still view much of its spectacular mountain scenery from the road.

Sinclair Canyon..the canyon's narrowest point

We saw 2 bears today but they were too fast

Look at the sun on those peaks

Kootenay National Park opened in 1920

Vermillion River

The river follows Hwy-93 for 35 miles from the Continental Divide to the confluence.  We enjoyed firsthand views of a textbook glacial river, complete with milky blue water and gravel out wash flats.

Hwy-93 was the first auto route to reach entirely across the Canadian Rockies

Nearly 11 percent of the park was consumed by fire in 2003

Parks Canada has allowed regrowth to occur naturally

Vermillion Pass (5,382 ft.)

You cross the Atlantic to Pacific drainage

Beautiful park....Enjoyed our short visit
