Mile 0 Haines Junction to Mile 146 Haines

Day 25.....Mile 3,692...8:30 AM.....41 degrees....we are off on our first side trip in the coach....Haines Highway....FYI....it was -1 in Haines Junction two days ago....heat wave today...

The 146 mile Haines Highway connects Haines Junction YT on the Alaska Highway to Haines AK at the head of Lynn Canal.  Open year-round and usually snow-free by late May it is a 2-lane paved road.  Noted for its grand views of glaciated mountains and the variety of its scenery...from coastal forests to alpine tundra....the Haines Highway was awarded National Scenic Byway status in 2009.


Dezadeash Lake is a shallow bathtub averaging 13 feet deep

 The water temperature can reach 54 degrees


Think we see a Black Bear up there 


 And we do...our wildlife for today


Sights are pretty

We view the largest internationally protected land mass on earth (UNESO World Heritage Site) today which includes Glacier Bay and Wrangell-St. Elias National Parks, the Klune National Park and Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park.....It is awesome....it is beautiful....oh me....oh my....does it get any better,,,,,
