Leaving Jasper National Park
We follow Hwy-16 to Hwy-40 which is called the Bighorn Route. We are in the middle of wilderness. We have 204 miles to reach Grande Prairie AB. The road is 2-lane and narrow. When we made the turn we saw the sign No Fuel northbound next 182 km/113 miles.
Looking for a turnout for breakfast
Do think this is an Elk crossing
Right there to tell us hello
Doing a lot of bridge work this summer
Smokey River
Coal Mining operation
Big operation...very dirty oil trucks
Lot of oil and gas companies
And TRUCKS and DIRTY Hwy-40
Lunch stand...how about a hot dog
When we arrive at Camp Tamarack they asked us.."Traveled Hwy-40"
We were dirty.....headed to town to find a car wash
Camp Tamarack is south of Grande Prairie and at an elevation of 2,198 feet. Grande Prairie is blooming and has one of the fastest growing population in AB. We found a WalMart, Liquor Store and Truck Wash plus a Flying J and were ready to go the next day. Rik liked the GP Truck Wash with 100 ft. bays, a power wash and someone else doing the work. Fuel at the Flying J was $.91.9 per liter which figures @ $3 per gallon and he could fill the tank....no cutting you off at $150......
This part of Alberta is known for agriculture (canola, cereal grains, fescue, honey, livestock). forestry (a bleached kraft pup mill, sawmill and oriented strand board plant), and oil and gas.
