Yoho National Park

One of the reason we chose Hwy-93 as our entrance into Canadian Rockies was to see this side of the Waterton Lakes National Park, the Kootenay National Park, Banff National Park and Yoho National Park.  Plus the crowds are in Banff and Lake Louise.

We made a Road Trip  today driving to Golden on Hwy-95, thru Yoho, Lake Louise and Banff on Trans Canada Hwy #1, then a right on Hwy-93 back thru Kootenay to our campsite in Radium Hot Springs.  A total of 241 miles.

 The landscape is simply awesome

 Just beautiful

Marvel at the force of the Kicking Horse River

as it cascades under a naturally formed stone bridge

 The Kicking Horse River

The Kicking Horse River runs through the park and is ice cold and milky with rock flour from its source at the Wapta Icefield.

On down the road to lower Spiral Tunnels

The original railbed was the steepest grade (4.5%) on the CPR

They lowered the grade to 2.2% by cutting 2 semicircular tunnels

Kicking Horse Pass 5,353 ft

Kicking Horse Pass marks the Continental Divide as well as the boundary between Alberta and British Columbia.  All water in the park flows to the Pacific Ocean.

And that is my story for today.  Banff National Park will come at a later date.
