Whitehorse to Skagway

The 98-mile South Klondike Highway connects with Skagway Alaska and we are headed that way

In 1899, The White Pass and Yukon Route built a railroad siding

at Robinson named for the Captain of course

The highway was built in 1978

with spectacular scenery

 Highway open year-round

Beautiful Emerald Lake with rainbow-like colors

from blue-green light waves reflecting off the white sediment on bottom

 Caribou Crossing Trading Post

Look how clean we are

Expecting 700 people today from cruise ship buses

Canada Border Service at Fraser (Elev. 2,400 feet)

The sub-alpine landscape of stunted trees and lakes

is often referred to as a "moon-scape"

represents a transition zone between the treed lower elevations

and the true alpine above treeline

Some fog or clouds or both

Well sure.....some construction

run-away truck ramp...won't tell you what the Captain said

The small twisted alpine firs are known as "mopheads"

White Pass Summit (elev. 3,292 feet)

Thousand of gold seekers poured into Canada over the Chilkoot and White passes on their way to Dawson City.
The mounted police set a minimum requirement of a year's supply of food and equipment...."one ton of goods"....for any miner entering Canada (after witnessing the desperate condition of many)

 William Moore Bridge

This unique suspension bridge spans a 110-feet-wide gorge over Moose Creek
