This is as far north as we will travel in Alaska......time to head south and work our way home.
Day 87.....51 degrees this morning.....we have logged 5,623 miles on the coach and 4,847 miles on the truck. We drive the Richardson Highway to Delta Junction which is the beginning of the Alaska Highway.
4-lane and sunny
Eielson Air Force Base....lined up and ready to take-off
Alaska Range
Oh my....what a sight after all the rain we have had
Tanana River which leads to the Yukon River
Tanana River valley....clouds covering Alaska Range
Where did the fog bank come from
In Delta Junction....minus 72 in 1972
Dive-Bombers
Delta Junction marks the true end of the Alaska Highway
Farmer's Market.....beets, carrots and blueberries
Down the Alaska Highway toward Tok
Did you say a 20 minute wait for the pilot car???
Tok is the only town in Alaska that the highway traveler must pass thru twice
Once when arriving in the state and again on leaving the state
Beautiful Visitor's Center and friendly folks
We will drive the Taylor Highway to Chicken Alaska and then the Top of the World Highway to Dawson Creek......Going to be an interesting ride....and hopefully the sun will be shining and the tops of the mountains will be clear.......
