Ninilchik and Homer

Day 58...Alaska and enjoying every minute of our trip.  We are off in the truck, headed south with stops in Ninilchik and Homer.

Interesting road sign....did see moose today

They have major repairs

Ninilchik is a fishing community that lives up to its Russian name, "peaceful settlement by a river"
The old Russian Orthodox Church overlooks the entire rustic village.  Population 842

Commercial fishing fleet....didn't see a pleasure boat

 Tide is out

Over 75 boats..... rafted together with one center dock

Cook Inlet

Mount Iliamna Volcano

Homer......Elevation:  Sea level to 800 feet  Climate:  Winter temperatures occasionally fall below zero, but seldom colder.
The Kenai Mountains north and east protect Homer from severe cold and Cook Inlet provides warming air currents.  The highest temperature recorded is 81 degrees.  Average annual precipitation is 21.9 inches.
Today we are driving the high road.....Skyline Drive and East End Road

In 1964 after the earthquake, the Spit sank 4 to 6 feet

Mount Douglas Volcano guards the entrance to Cook Inlet

Stunning views of Kachemak Bay glaciers and mountains

East End Road ends at the head of Kachemak Bay
and the Russian village of Kachemak Selo

Back down the road to sea level

Bishop Beach in the high 60s today

Coming down the spit

RVs everywhere

Cruise Ship in today

Well I could live on this

You can see his anchor but don't think he is going anywhere soon

The Boat Graveyard of retired wooden boats

Think they still live on this one

The Volcanoes are sleeping which is good but
